SEOUL, July 28 2023 – Kakao Entertainment is excited to announce the premiere of the widely anticipated second season of “The Uncanny Counter” on tvN and Netflix this coming July 29. The Uncanny Counter 2 is inspired by the incredibly popular webtoon of the same name, which amassed an impressive 190 million total views and a readership reaching 9 million.
The Season 1 TV Drama achieved record-breaking viewership in Korean TV station OCN, generating widespread anticipation for strong synergy between the currently trending 3rd season of the webtoon and the upcoming second season of the TV series.
Created by Jang E and serialized on Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon, “The Uncanny Counter” is a riveting fantasy that chronicles the adventures of ‘Counters’ – individuals tasked with capturing evil spirits that escape from an afterlife realm known as ‘Yung.’ With its unique storytelling, compelling characters, and dynamic action sequences, the webtoon has struck a chord with global audiences, transcending age groups and geographic boundaries to enjoy an exceptionally successful two-season run from 2018 until 2021.
The webtoon’s third season kicked off in March of this year in South Korea and across all Kakao Entertainment’s global platforms. The latest webtoon series raised the bar on engagement by delving deeply into the unwavering bonds within the Counter family while introducing a new villain whose power continues to grow.
The first webtoon adaptation as Season 1 of the TV drama was a huge success. In Season 2, “The Uncanny Counter 2” audiences can look forward to the return of the original cast alongside the introduction of several new Counters and evil spirits. Directed again by Yoo Sun-dong, with screenwriting by Kim Sae-bom, and production by Studio Dragon and Betty and Creators, Season 2 follows the storyline of the webtoon’s second season. The first episode will air on July 29th, 21:20 K.S.T.
“It’s meaningful that the TV drama Season 2 is coming out. I hope many will enjoy both the webtoon and TV drama of The Uncanny Counter Season 2, which features more complex stories of Somoon (the protagonist) and the Counters” said Jang E, the creator of the original webtoon.
