SEOUL, Jan. 3, 2023 – The first episode of the all-new virtual K-pop competition series from Kakao Entertainment, “GIRL’S RE:VERSE,” made its global premiere on January 2 and is now available for streaming on YouTube and various OTT platforms. As the K-pop wave continues worldwide, the show has received much attention from K-pop fans. It also spotlights Kakao Entertainment’s foray into new forms of entertainment, including within the metaverse.
“GIRL’S RE:VERSE” is one-of-a-kind among competition shows and possesses all the requisite ingredients for a major global hit, bringing together K-pop idols with the magic of virtual reality in the metaverse. The show pits 30 current and former girl group members against each other as virtual reality characters competing inside a metaverse called “W.” The final winners get a chance to debut as a five-member virtual girl group.
With creative direction provided by some of Korea’s best producers, the unique concept immediately grabbed the attention of K-pop fans with its fresh take on the idol competition series model. The show is brought to life by the same creative teams responsible for some of Kakao Entertainment’s most popular shows, including executive producers Cho Wookhyung and Park Jinkyung, and producers Son Sujung and Cho Jooyun.
Even before the show’s launch, Kakao Entertainment began drumming up excitement with a series of content aimed at boosting engagement and introducing the new “W” universe. Viewers have been invited in with everything from web novels telling the stories behind each character, to fun intro videos of the virtual idols, and even the catchy theme song, “I Promise.”
The show is now available around the world on the official “GIRL’S RE:VERSE” YouTube channel and overseas OTT platforms. Kakao Entertainment has concluded a string of deals with service providers to make the show available to fans in 40 different countries. Viewers in North and South America can enjoy the show on wavve Americas’ KOCOWA, while in Japan the show will be released exclusively by ABEMA starting January 8.
