Sept. 24, 2025, SEOUL, KOREA – WOODZ is releasing his much-awaited new digital single “I’ll Never Love Again” on Sept. 24, making his first comeback in two years after completing his military service. Following the resounding success of his sleeper hit “Drowning,” WOODZ is expected to shake up the music scene again with the upcoming release, bringing his evolved sound and authenticity to the forefront.
‘I’ll Never Love Again’
“I’ll Never Love Again” offers the title track of the same name, along with “Smashing Concrete,” which was unveiled as a visualizer video in July to much attention. Both songs were written by WOODZ himself, who is reputed for his talents in songwriting. The new digital single captures a desire to view repetitive routines and seemingly ordinary moments of life through a different lens ― at least for today ― and ultimately poses a question to listeners: “How will you see them?”
The title track is an alternative rock song rooted in folk sensibilities, which blends WOODZ’s emotional vocals with a grand choir. It conveys the pain and resolution of a breakup and lost love. “Smashing Concrete” is an alternative metal track highlighting WOODZ’s rap and vocals. Imparting a message about smashing life’s obstacles, its intense guitar and drum sounds offer listeners a rush of explosive energy and a deep sense of liberation.
The music video for the title track will also be released on Sept. 24. Featuring diverse portrayals of love, WOODZ’s passionate acting, and the song’s sweeping soundscape, it weaves together a powerful narrative with striking visual aesthetics.
It has taken about 1 year and 9 months for WOODZ to put out music reflecting his unique musical identity, following the release of “AMNESIA” in December, 2023.
‘Drowning’ success
Anticipation for his upcoming digital single is sky-high, as it marks his first release since the resounding success of “Drowning.” During his military service, the 2023 track surged in popularity and became one of the most prominent sleeper hits of 2025. It dominated major streaming charts for several months and even earned WOODZ a music show win, while maintaining its top spots to this day. Notably, a performance video featuring WOODZ in military uniform on KBS2’ “Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend” has amassed a staggering 20 million views on YouTube, underscoring the song’s lasting appeal.
In response to his soaring popularity, WOODZ jumped back into a variety of musical activities upon his return, heating up the stage at the major Japanese music festival “SUMMER SONIC 2025” in August, among others, showcasing his standout live performance skills.
Q&A with WOODZ
Q. This is your first album since being discharged from the military, and your first in about two years. How do you feel about it?
A. I’m very thrilled because this signals the beginning of my full-fledged activities such as releasing albums and holding concerts. Some people asked if I felt pressured to put out release something right after being discharged, but I actually enjoyed the process a lot. I’m thankful that the belated success of “Drowning” gave more people an opportunity to take notice of my music. I also worked hard on this release to repay the fans who waited for me. Beginning with this digital single, I’ll be sharing even more music going forward.Q. Can you briefly introduce the title track “I’ll Never Love Again“?
A. Literally speaking, the title means “I won’t love again,” but what I want to deliver isn’t a firm statement — it’s more of a question. The song asks: “Would you be able to choose that (same) love again even at the moment of a final breakup or when love comes to an end?” I hope people enjoy the song and find their own answers.Q. “Smashing Concrete” generated buzz after being unveiled as a visualizer video last month. Can you introduce this song?
A. It’s a track about “limits.” People often have to climb step by step to go up, and I think slumps come in the same way. So I thought that wall as concrete, which others might suggest taking the long way around it. However, my message is that you need to smash through it if you want to reach the next level. It also revolves around the subject of stress, expressing my hope for a society where people can break through their stress wisely.
Q. Do you have any listening tips for your new tracks?
A. For the title track “I’ll Never Love Again,” I recommend concentrating on the gradual emotional build-up and the sound of each session, while also connecting with the lyrics. That will make you feel the grandeur, as well as the emotional flow and tension of the song. “Smashing Concrete” is the song marked by a powerful band sound, so I hope listeners can just enjoy it with energy and excitement.Q. When working on these songs, what was your main focus?
A. I tried to capture my honest self. I think these tracks reflect my true colors more than any of my previous releases. In my album introductions, I always show my determination that I want to make honest music. (This time,) with my new songs, I really worked to be genuine and to show more of who I am.Q. We heard that you were really enthusiastic during the shooting of the title track’s music video, flying on wires and filming near blazing fire. Can you share any special episodes or must-see moments?
A. It was my first time filming with wires and everyone said it would be challenging. But it was actually better than I thought, and it was kind of fun to fly in the air. In the case of the fire scene, I moved closer to the flames as it looked too unrealistic (and distant) at first. That helped me create a more dynamic shot.Q. Can you tell us about the musical direction that you are heading to, and what kind of artist you want to be?
A. I always want to do music on my own terms and make sincere music. Instead of thinking I should do more of this because it worked so well, I want to become an artist who clearly expresses what I want to say and shows that through my work. My goal is to become an artist who can tour stadiums across the globe. I just want to consistently interact with my fans and showcase what I want in a balanced way. With this approach, I believe I will be able to reach that dream one day.Q. Lastly, do you have any messages for your listeners and fans?
A. My news songs are only complete when you add your own interpretations to them. I hope you enjoy them in your own way and fill them with your interpretations. I always appreciate you from the bottom of my heart and I love you.
